Production Diary 4 - 5/12/14

For this shoot, we planned to film the Cassandra bully scenes with Loan, Sophie and Robert.

In one scene, a bully rips a page Cassandra’s book; the page is a drawing of Cassandra, her mother, father and little brother. We wanted the page to rip between the drawing of Cassandra and her family to show that they had been separated and to connote how alone Cassandra feels. By scoring the page beforehand with scissors, we made sure that it was ripped in the correct place.

One problem we had was that we were filming in winter which meant that it went dark outside early. In the classroom bullying scene we realised you could see it going dark outside because of the windows behind the actors. As we were filming a scene set in the day time, I decided we should close the blinds so that the audience couldn't see how dark it was outside.

We wanted to use a focus pull when Cassandra turned around to face the bullies and it took us a few attempts to get it right. We had use a different camera that allowed us to focus manually in order to get this effect and Becky had to make sure she was in a comfortable position to focus the camera smoothly.
